Malaysia news: When the ultraman tries to outrun a tsunami

This is a news that had once become an argumentative international topic in 2011. I have known this news when my cross-cultural psychology lecturer discussed about it during the class just now.

Although it is just a simple drawing, it brings a very important message and deserves our ponder.

In the class, the lecturer asked us to take a few minutes to write out our sentiments and comments as well as applying what we have learned during the class of the day.
So, at this moment, when you have first seen this sketch, what is the sentence in your brain?

After that, few students volunteered to share their thoughts.
One student talked about stereotype.
The concept of his thought is roughly like "we always label that an ultraman must be very powerful. However, he cannot ever bear the tsunami."

Indeed, how long do we bring our stereotypes to live our life and it hints the negative impacts?
To form a bigger image, how can negligence of cross-cultural issues form conflict?

When we talk about cross-cultural, there should be keywords like "stereotype" and "diversity" following behind.

In fact, lack of diversity can be a barrier to our mental health. Why so?
Because it makes us living in the comfort zone with our stiff stereotypes.
When the individuals live in an environment with diversified cultures, they will always have the hard time to get through our stereotypes. However, they will be better to overcome the hard time and  then embrace the diversity as compared to a homogenous group.

This sketch was actually drawn by an editor for Malaysian Newspaper Berita Harian.
Obviously, The editor was insensitive with the cross-cultural aspect. The editor actually had no intention to critisize others. However, the editor was not aware of a little action can bring a serious negative outcome afterwards.

At the end, a Malaysian newspaper has apologized for printing a caricature of Japanese cartoon superhero Ultraman comically trying to outrun a tsunami (The Washington Post, 2011).

The publication has received tremendous criticisms by readers, who accuse the editors as being "inconsiderate and distasteful". Several political leaders have even stepped out and demand a public apology, to which the editors promptly made on their publication's Facebook fan page (CNN, 2011).

This real story has reminded me a proverb taught by my life mentor.
He said,
A person who lives everyday being careful, being attentive, checking, and making the effort in reality is ‘a person who has climbed up to the level of the divine and is living at that level.’
(Adopted from Sunday message, 3 April 2016)

Hence, it is always crucial for us to often being careful, being attentive and checking instead of solely thinking of throwing away our stereotypes.
Otherwise, ones will be suffering, having problems, and getting sick.

I agree with this word of God extremely because I lost something due to my carelessness recently.
My mentor said, don’t ask God to show you a miracle. Instead, take action on God’s Word! So there will be upcoming miracles and blessings.
Taking the lost as a big lesson, I would take action to secure my things, do things much more carefully and make whatever effort in reality to live with blessings.

I am grateful because I have learned the truth thoroughly from Teacher Jung. Everyone should get the blessings after learning God's words correctly and taking action.
I would keep on living in the God's history and live a better life within His law of reason.

Last but not least, let's take action upon the highlighted God's Words and may your life be full with miracles. :)

  1. A tiny action/word can revive or kill a live. We truly have to live everyday being careful, attentive, checking and making effort in reality.
